DISTRICT STATISTICAL OFFICE::NONGPOH

The functions of the District Statistical Office are mainly conducting surveys on regular features as well as adhoc and pilot surveys. The District Statistical Office collects vital data from Towns/villages on personal visits to the households on any assigned statistical information from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Meghalaya.

The work programmes and activities taken up by the District Statistical Office relates to Crop Cutting Experiment on selected crop, namely maize, spring paddy, winter paddy, ginger, turmeric, rape seeds and mustards. Besides, the District Statistical office is also conducting regular field operation survey on National sample survey, adhoc
Comprehensive Survey on Household Characteristics, Economic Survey on regular basis, and Pilot Survey on Basic Statistics on Local Level Development, total involvement during General Census 2011 for whole Nongpoh town and others from time to time.

The District Statistical Office is solely responsible to compile and to finalize the District Crop Forecast Report in every quarterly basis which has great importance for assessment of Area, Production and yield of every important Crops of District; it is also responsible for the compilation of Land Use Statistics annually.

The District Statistical office is regularly compiled and published the District Statistical Hand Book, District statistical Abstract, District at a glance etc, which are very useful for all Public and Private sectors, Students, Policy makers, Planners and other users.

The District Statistical office is regularly compiling the Price Statistics of the District by collecting the Monthly Retail Price, Monthly wholesale Price, Weekly Retail Price and Weekly Wholesale Price on every Weekly Market day. It is attempt to depict the price situation during the year and the monthly variation of general price level in the District.

All the Block level information is maintained by the Sub- Inspector of Statistics who are posted in all C&RD Blocks of the state.

Due to non-availability of Government building, the Office is presently accommodated in a rented private building and had to incur heavy expenditure on rent and also have to face lots of problems due to noise and dust pollution being the office building is situated just besides the national highway.
